This Nancy Gonzalez tote is eyecatching. And I was gonna say how much the design offers so much space for the user, until a friend noted that this isn’t the first time she has seen a bag like it.
In fact, there had been another release of this bag, with its extra flappy sides (yes, those wings are THE main feature!), from Celine, which came out with its envelope tote bag a couple of months back:
Although they differ in a few elements, such as the material (croc leather for the Gonzalez bag), the handles and Celine’s front pockets come with the hardware clasp, you can’t help but do a double take for this handbag and wonder if who copied whom.
Similar designs are not new to this industry. In fact, that’s basically what dictates fashion. Some people are actually saying the design for Celine’s envelope tote is also an inspired copy, or rather, a variation, of another handbag design.
Which one do you prefer between these two?
I have to say I’m partial to the Nancy Gonzalez design, in spite looking like it’s the copycat, because I like its clean and simple construction better. The Celine envelope luggage just seems a bit bulkier for me.

Jason Wu’s latest collection is a smorgasbord of gorgeous handbags which I think is a dip and a nod to the style I know my grandmother would love.
Not to say that it’s old. But rather, I particularly love that this collection is a shower of elegance and class. It’s precisely the era my grandmother grew up on, where dressing up in style means really taking a lot of effort to look refined, sophisticated and classy.
Just take a look at what Jason Wu offers. You’ve got to be blind or totally without interest in style to not appreciate this collection:
I love how structed these pieces are. I also like the little metallic details to it. These are the kind of handbags that you used to no longer see but in old photos. I’m glad Jason Wu has brought the element back. No wonder he’s being hailed as one of the most promising designers to emerge in these times.

This isn’t my favorite of Coach’s bag collection. As it is named, I find this bag really bright and shiny with all of its metallic leather and sequins embellish. It would be a challenge to make it work. 10 1/4 (L) x 11(H) x 4 (W).
