With so many landmark court cases where designer brands are winning over fake designer handbag makers, some 50 designers have bonded together to come up with special limited edition handbags for auction at Ebay.
The collaboration is one for the books, as many of the participants included famous labels like Reed Krakoff, Betsey Johnson, Jason Wu, Tory Burch, Kenneth Cole, Badgley Mischka and Rodarte.
The handbags each have the text “YOU CAN’T FAKE FASHION” on it and it all went on auction on Ebay last Monday.
But because these are very exclusive limited designs, there is only one handbag for each designer, meaning, as soon as these went online, the items were immediately off the market. Sources say that in total, the auction earned $7,500 for these handbags, which is actually just loose change for the designers and their industry.
However, as far as making a statement against imitators and fake merchandise, then this idea was also a huge success.
Personally, these special limited edition designs leaves little to be desired about when it comes to style. Some of these handbags actually look very amateur to me. But since they’re one of a kind and they’re statement bags, then coveting this would be great for a bagista’s collection.
But if you’re still raring to get one, this basic “You Can’t Fake Fashion” handbag is still up for grabs on Ebay, from the CFDA or Council of Fashion Designers of America:

It’s another way for name brands’ fight against counterfeit good.
Louis Vuitton has been awarded CAN$1.4Million, while Burberry will be collecting CAN$1.1Million after it was proven by the Calgary court in Canada that counterfeiting companies have been sell fake designer goods of the labels. These were mostly handbags and other accessories (like belts) from China, and were sold online.
According to a statement from Louis Vuitton —
“Those companies had been selling, since as early as January 2008, counterfeit and infringing fashion accessories, specifically handbags, bearing Louis Vuitton trademarks and copyrights and Burberry trademarks.”
Three Canadian companies were involved in this case, namely Carnation Fashion, Singga and Altec and the courts have asked them to pay the luxury brands. These companies were believed to be involved in larger counterfeiting operations and have been selling the goods all over Canada.
The court made their final decision of this case last June 27, calling this “the highest punitive damages award”.
Early in June, Tory Burch has won the case against counterfeiters as well and was awarded US$164Million by a New York City court.

Through a friend’s tip, I checked out this handbag website, Tila March, and found myself loving what I’ve seen. The bags mostly come in easy pleasing neutral shades and some with standard primary colors and the designs are straightforward — no frills, ribbons or what-have-you’s. Some of the pieces actually remind me of a Tory Burch handbag.
Take for instance this tote, Tila March’s Zelig Cabas Plat Leather. I love the simple design and yet it still looks awesome and chic.
Slightly bigger in size and still looking really classy is this Lily Tote XL, which I think goes very well with anything, especially for summer wear.
This black Dora Boston bag would be great for a woman with style and substance. It’s simple though not the least bit plain looking. It actually looks sophisticated.
My favorite, however, would be this yellow sueded Manon Shoulder Bag, which I think is perfect for color blocking trend.
Tila March is created in 2006 by French Elle fashion editor Tamara Taichman.

The New York Fashion Week featuring collections for Fall 2011 ended a few days ago. Here are some notable bags that we’re spotted during the runway show.
While I’m not loving the bags from Marc Jacobs or Donna Karan, I think that they bring a lot of style. Someone who is a fashion maverick can do wonders with is. And I love the basic style of Tory Burch’s bag. It’s cool, trendy, functional and versatile.

Although this bag comes in black, it does look better in this greenish, turquoise shade (it’s labeled Star Green). It’s brings this ladylike charm except that the chain strap also looks fierce and cool.
