Yves Saint Laurent’s Chyc Cabas Bag
Jun 22nd, 2011

Fashion insiders say that this handbag is the next IT bag. Celebrities like Leighton Meester, Kylie Minogue and Sienna Miller already have it and where photographed carrying this but the Chyc Cabas handbag, which comes from Yves Saint Laurant, isn’t going to be available for sale until late summer. And there will only be 100 pieces sold in the United States, in total.

The limited release and very exclusive handbag doubles as a tote and a shoulder bag. It’s a perfect shopper, and originally designed in calfskin leather, but as you see in the photos, there are plenty of variations for it. My favorite would have to be the red frayed straw design. It makes me want to get on a yacht or go on a cruise.

The Chyc Cabas handbag all carry the brand’s Y logo in gold. It also has double zippers with two outer pockets. The inside is lined with cotton fabric and has two pockets, one is specifically for mobile phones.

Stylish, spacious and with lots of interesting makes to choose from, pre-orders are now up at the YSL site for $1,995.

Gucci Updates Their Sukey Tote For Unicef
Jun 3rd, 2011

Last year, Gucci’s Sukey handbag, which has been especially designed for their Unicef projects, looked like this:

This year, the brand has updated the Sukey, giving it a deeper chocolate brown color and a slightly vintage and boxier form:

The Sukey is a best-seller for the brand. And with every purchase of this, 25% of the cost goes to Gucci’s funds for its UNICEF outreach programs.

The brand has been committed to helping the organization since seven years ago. And the money they bring in helps UNICEF builds schools in Africa, where many children affected with HIV get their education.

The Sukey handbag comes with the trademark 1935 Diamante motif and for this style, the motif is embossed in the material. It also comes with hardware that features the brand’s insignia.

The handbag will be available for sale beginning June of 2011, until February next year. And then a new design should be out again following this.

For more details you can go to the Gucci-UNICEF site.

The Downside to Renting An Original Handbag
Feb 17th, 2011

For many thrifty women, the cost of owning or buying an original handbag can be too frivolous. But while most women would opt to get a replica of some of the most popular luxury handbags, others stick to the real thing and rent these instead. Sites like Avelle.Com or Rentmeahandbag.com offer such a service, allowing women to wear original designer handbags for a set period of time.

The service has proven to be very popular. It’s perfect for women who enjoy having a new handbag every few months, without having to really spend an arm and a leg for it. I think there’s even an option to own the bag, eventually. It’s like paying for a lay-away item, except that you are already using this.

Checking into these rental sites, I find that the selection is quite updated. However, there are some drawbacks to rental handbags:

1. The rental price is still a bit steep.

This Prada Tote, for example, has the following digits:
Retail Price: $2,970.00

Member Preferred Price (RENTAL)
$267.00/week or $535.00/month
Non-Member Guest Price:
$267.00/week or $535.00/month

Buy it (USED)
Guests $2,079.00
Members $1,871.00

Even if you end up owning the rental bag, for a “used” item, rented by a few others before you, the price is still impractical.

2. You never know what others have done to the bag while someone else has been renting it. These designer bags are durable, I know that. But some women can be careless with it and may ruin the bag without them realizing it.

3. If you’ve fallen in love with the rental bag, it’s pretty hard to let it go. And we do know how attached women are with their bags.

Have you tried renting out designer handbags before?
